Welcome to Pack 5!
We are a small, inclusive Denver Cub Scout pack that emphasizes outdoor fun and community service.
The absolute basics:
With Pack 5, your child will grow in resilience, confidence, empathy, leadership skills, and hopefulness.
We meet once a week on Tuesdays near the University of Denver, with fun weekend activities a couple of times a month.
There is financial assistance available. Standard dues for a full year are about $160, but we try to cut into that with fundraising.
General Scouting info:
➜ Scouting is a program that can run from kindergarten into adulthood. The mission is “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes.”
Each year, there is a set of activities that are required to make the next rank. Alongside fun and friendship, scouts learn essential life skills, practice community service, and develop qualities like empathy and a sense of wonder for the world around them.
The program grows with the scout, providing age-appropriate activities and challenges.
Scouting fosters responsibility, self-discipline, and goal-setting. The result: skills and values like leadership, teamwork, and community involvement set scouts apart in school and beyond.
Former scouts include Scott Carpenter, one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, who was a scout in Colorado before making history in space. More recently, a Denver area girl was among the first-ever class of female Eagle Scouts in 2021, with more making the rank in 2022 and 2023, as Scouts BSA makes progress toward being a more inclusive organization nationwide.
Sample of activities over the last two years:
The goal of Scouting is “Fun with a Purpose.” Our volunteer parent-leaders try their best to incorporate this goal into everything we do with the Scouts. In addition to grade-level programming, our goal is to have one event, organized for the entire Pack, once a month.
For example, over the last few years year we have:
Camped, hiked, and fished at Wellington Lake
Hiked through all the seasons at Lair O’ The Bear Park, Staunton State Park, Bluffs Regional Park, and Maxwell Falls
Volunteered to help clean up a Denver park and remove invasive species at a Colorado State Park
Collected and donated food to a local food pantry
Visited Buckley Space Force Base, met real pilots and explored real helicopters
Raced in the Pinewood Derby after making our own race cars from kits
Helped prepare a garden for Mother’s Day planting at the church that provides us space to meet
Camped out overnight at the Air Force Academy -- with a hike and an Air Force football game
Served as color guard in a neighborhood Fourth of July parade and at a University of Denver basketball game
Visited the National Western Stock Show with special admission for the scouts
You can expect more like that if you join!
(Nobody gets to every event, so consider this list a menu, not a to-do list.)
